It’s not the Hollywood sign which is L.A. The bridge is a Cali thing, with the fog and ocean. The stamp border refers to travelling, going from here to there, not stationary. I used warm colours and built around the yellow sky. The illustration process was scratch board which is very organic and in keeping with the California feel. [although i guess you could argue that southern cali is pretty slick] All seperations are hand cut with airbrush splatter on rubylith and then each colour is hand pulled. When I first heard the song Witchy Woman the lyrics conjured up images of this mystical, sexy woman who could have her way with you and leave you wanting more. As I grew older and became exposed to other religions and cultures I grew to associate the song more with the emotions pagan rituals and raw lust evoke in my mind.\u003cbr\u003e \u003cspan\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e The lyrics explore a damning tale of beauty, lust and the feminine power that these mysterious creatures called women have over men. When asked to illustrate this project, I immediately envisioned a pagan dancer shrouded in a swirling mist conjuring animal guides; visions I myself had experienced while under the influence of peyote. The style of art used in the piece are based heavily on Native American Visionary art.
