Jimi Hendrix South Saturn Delta
One of a slew of posthumous Jimi Hendrix releases, South Saturn Delta is notable for being one of the first collections of unreleased Hendrix material to be officially issued by the Jimi Hendrix estate, after they retrieved the rights to his music in the mid-90s. A collection of recordings spanning much of the guitarist’s career, South Saturn Delta also contained material that Hendrix was working on up to his death, in 1970. Its iconic cover photo was taken at the backlot of Warner Bros film studios in California by rock photographer Ed Thrasher, who created many memorable album covers of the 60s and 70s, and would later photograph Prince sitting astride a motorbike for the cover of Purple Rain.
